Cockroach Pest Control

With their long antennae and their scurrying shiny, long bodies, these pests—not much longer than three centimetres—sneak in at night to feed on crumbs you might have missed. Feeding and reproduction take up most of these pests’ waking hours. The sight of these guys make some people cringe!

They love our mild climate, since they reproduce better in warm weather. Cockroaches lay plenty of eggs–in multiple pouches of 24 eggs each. German cockroaches can lay eggs as often as every two months, so getting a handle on an infestation early is important.

They like to hide near food preparation areas, in kitchen cupboards, under sinks, behind the fridge and anywhere that is dark and damp, such as drains and with easy access to food. No matter how clean your house, cockroaches will invade!

If you see a cockroach or two, there is a good chance that there are many more about. Generally not seen during the daytime hours, Cockroaches like to forage under the cover of dark and they also can be the cause of or increase the severity of allergies.

There are 3 main types of Cockroaches

Cockroaches you will encounter in our region are American, Australian and German Cockroaches.

  • The American and Australian cockroaches have wings and can fly into your homes at any time though an unguarded window or door. They like to breed in bark, leaf mulch and palm trees.
  • German Cockroaches are much smaller than the two species, however, they are fast breeders. They are attracted to food scraps, dirty dishes and poor hygiene, however, they can have entered your home via a storage container or the likes of. These are commonly found in cafes, restaurants and bars.

There are multiple ways to treat cockroaches – for example, using powders, spraying them with a chemical spray or utilising a baiting treatment to control the colony, each infestation is different so its our job to select the most appropriate treatment method.

Because cockroaches carry so many diseases, it’s important to treat them at the first sign of infestation. You can Trust Us to get this under control for you.

Spider Pest Control

Since spiders, too, lay eggs at an alarming rate – many lay thousands at a time – you need to move quickly to eradicate a spider infestation. They like damp, dark areas, and often build their webs in the corners of your home.

These biting pests inject toxins along with their bite – some can be fatal if untreated – so it’s important to get them out of your home. Depending on the species, we use sprays, baits, and dust to evict these eight-legged pests from your home for good.

We have a great knowledge of all species of spiders and specialise in the treatment and eradication of spiders.

Did you know there are over 35,000 species of spiders worldwide and a few thousand of these can be found throughout Australia.

Suncoast Pest Solutions understand the behaviours associated with each spider and after a thorough inspection of your property, will treat accordingly.

Most common species encountered on in our region are;

  • Red Back Spider
Indigenous to Australia, the Red Back is distinguished by its black body and red stripe, however they do not always have a red marking. They love sheltered crevices and holes in and around homes, under bins, pot plants, rockeries, garden beds, drains, tank stands and alarmingly, children’s play equipment. Their webs are distinctive by being unusually sticky and messy looking, usually containing several egg sacks. It is the female of the Red-back species that is toxic, inflicting a painful bite that can cause localised swelling, sweating, muscle weakness, nausea and vomiting. Fortunately the venom is slow acting and there is an antivenin available.

  • St Andrews Cross
The Abdomen is striped yellow and brown and this spider usually sits upside down in the middle of its web forming a cross. Commonly found in garden areas around your home primarily in summer. The bite of the St Andrews Cross is nontoxic and they are not aggressive.

  • Wolf Spider
Around 15 -30 mm in body length and grey to brown in colour with a Union Jack on its back, this spider is a ground dweller with a burrow retreat. Generally found in garden areas with a silt lined burrow sometimes with a lid covered by leaf or grass. The bite is poisonous but not lethal, however can be painful. However the bite of a Wolf Spider can be lethal to cats and dog. On the plus side, their toxin is also lethal to the cane toad.

  • Black House Spider
Grows up to 15mm in body length and is a dark brown to black velvet in colour. They spin quite messy webs, generally secluded spaces like window frame corners, under eaves, gutters, in brick work, fences, sheds, toilets and in the garden, under rocks and bark. Whilst the bite is poisonous it is not lethal, but can produce symptoms including vomiting, headaches, dizziness and extreme pain around the bite site.

  • Huntsman Spider
With a body length of up to 20mm the Huntsman’s legs may reach 45mm. It is a hairy spider, brown in colour with dark patches on its body. They like to live under the bark of trees, flat rocks or eaves and in roof voids, but they also like to wander into homes and can be often be found perched on a wall. The bite of a Huntsman is low risk, but can be a painful bite. They are however, extremely timid and generally not a hazard to us humans.

  • Daddy Long Legs
They are brown in appearance with a small body and very long legs. They can be found in most homes throughout Australia, around cornices and skirting boards. The venom of the daddy long legs is supposed to be one of the most poisonous of all spiders however there is actually no scientific evidence to verify this. The fangs of these spiders are too small to generally penetrate the skin and it is not considered dangerous.

  • Mouse Spider
grows up to 35mm in body length. Black in appearance, the male may or may not have a bright red head. The female is sometimes mistaken for the Sydney Funnel Web Spider. These spiders are ground dwellers creating burrows often over a mitre deep. The males can often be found wandering around in the day time on open ground, looking for a female. It is venomous and gives a deep, painful bite, known to cause severe illness especially to young children.

  • Funnel Web Spider
25-35mm in body length, the females grow larger than the males. They are shiny black with a purple-brown belly. It is a ground dweller and found in most soil areas along the eastern coast of Australia. Male Funnel Web Spiders will wander into shoes, clothing or washing left out and they can also get into swimming pools, being able to survive underwater for several days. It has a very aggressive nature when disturbed and can bite several times. The heavy rain will bring a Funnel Web out. Funnel Web Spiders are very toxic and medical aid should be sought immediately, if bitten. There is an antivenine.

We recommend, to prevent spiders visiting your home:

  1. Clear debris and vegetation from your homes perimeter;
  2. Always turn off outdoor lights as they attract other insects which in turn attracts spiders
  3. Always seal cracks in your walls, along the foundation of your home and around window seals
  4. Remove web from around your home with a vacuum or a broom
  5. Keep your home tidy.

If you think you have been bitten by a spider attempt to identify the spider and call the Poison Hotline immediately on 13 11 26.

How To Control Fleas

Because these animals transmit parasites, like tapeworms, to both you and your pets, as well as blood-and saliva-borne diseases, they are dangerous to you and your four-legged companions.

In Australia, we have several species of fleas, with the most common being the cat flea which generally invade our pets and sometimes our own bodies, if the flea colony becomes out of control. It is the distress and discomfort of a flea bite that generally makes you aware of a possible infestation. Cat fleas nest in the host’s resting place, which is generally your cat or dog’s sleeping mat or basket. Other common flea species are the Dog Flea and Bird Flea.

An adult female flea laying four to eight eggs after every (blood) meal.
Fleas are difficult to get rid of. It takes a partnership among you, your veterinarian, and your pest control provider to fully rid your home and its premises of these creatures.

Fleas are wingless insects, 1.5 – 3.3mm long, with mouth parts adapted for piercing skin and sucking blood. Fleas feed off the blood of humans and animals, such as dogs and cats. Most flea bites on humans are on the lower legs and can become very itchy. Some people are more sensitive that others to flea bites and may suffer an allergic reaction.
Call Suncoast Pest Solutions to help you eradicate flea infestations and help you in flea control.

If you have moved into an unoccupied house and find you have fleas it can be because fleas and their lava are often buried in carpets. They can lay dormant for long periods of time and only require slight vibrations from you or your pet to wake them and have them attach and start to feed.

If you think you have fleas call us and we will conduct a thorough treatment of the entire property to rid you of the flea infestation.

Ant Pest Control

Like termites, ants like humid, warm areas. They love to munch on your food and of course whatever they can find in your pets bowl. Unfortunately, some kinds of ants also enjoy plastics; such as the coating on your home’s wiring – making them a dangerous housemate. We receive many calls from clients asking for help to eradicate ants as they have been unsuccessful in their attempts using everyday inspect products.

Suncoast Pest Solutions are experts in ant eradication and fully understand the frustration caused by these tiny insects! Our knowledge of the foraging and nesting habits of Ants allow us to effectively locate nests and apply treatments that are most effective for long term results.

Ants are social insects that are mostly located in soil, wood or rocks. They live in colonies and are common intruders in and around buildings. Ants seek out walls, roofs, voids, kitchens, lawns and gardens and decaying wood. Once an Ant colony discovers a source of food, the number of ants in that area can increase exponentially as the workers get busy. If your home or yard has become a food source for a colony of ants, it’s time to call Suncoast Pest Solutions. Different species of ants look for different food sources and this is where our knowledge helps us to seek out and control your ant invasion. Whilst most ants don’t really cause real damage they can become an unwanted pest in your home, garden or industrial building.

Ants can often be found in old Termite workings.

We locate and destroy the ants’ nest and use chemicals to kill those that remain in your home. Ants live long lives and reproduce quickly, making time of the essence. If we are unable to locate the source of the problem, we can provide them with a food source that they will take to the nest, this in turn will eliminate the colony. We spray the entire perimeter of the house to provide future protection, meaning your home can be ant-free in no time! Trust Us to help get it sorted.

Pest Inspections On The Sunshine Coast

Bedbugs

Often difficult to identify because they only come out at night, these tiny creatures feast on your blood. If you see rusty-coloured spots on your bedding or tiny casings on your floor, you might have a bedbug infestation. Best to call us so we can identify if bed bugs are your problem.

Bedbugs are one of those things in life that we simply do not wish to talk about or admit to having infestations in our home. Like head lice, the bed bug over the centuries has become a stigma due to myths associated with the bug, such as: only dirty, cluttered homes get bedbugs. Another misconception is that if you find you have a bedbug infestation you have to destroy all infested clothing and furniture. Totally untrue.

Bedbugs hatch in about 12 days!
At about five eggs a day for each female, that’s a lot of bedbugs in a short time. Call us immediately if you suspect a bedbug infestation.

Suncoast Pest Solutions have encountered numerous bedbug infestations in and around the Sunshine Coast and North Brisbane. We understand the sensitive nature of this type of infestation and use our utmost discretion in inspecting and treating these pests.

Over the past few years, Australia has encountered a rise in the infestation of the bedbug and as such, there has also been an insurgence of more myth, bedbug management devices and products. Like the myths, not all of these devices are effective in controlling these pests.

Bedbugs are Small, Oval Shaped Insects
They live on the blood of humans or animals. An adult can grow to the size of an apple seed. They do not fly but they can move over floors, walls and ceilings very, very quickly. They are a nuisance and do not restrict their breeding activities or infestations to beds alone.

Bedbugs are commonly also found in carpet, bedroom furniture, behind cornices and wall pictures, in light sockets, couches and chairs. They also like to hide out in bed sheets, pillows, quilts and other linen. The biggest problem with bedbugs (another myth dispelled) is that they do not discriminate between clean or dirty environments… they will set up home wherever they can feed and hide.

Detection of Bedbugs can be Difficult
At times as not all people have reactions to their bite. In fact it can be quite difficult to realise that you have an infestation as these pests secrets a numbing agent within their saliva so not all people even realise they are being bitten. Due to the exponential rise in infestation over the last ten to fifteen years, bedbug treatment is considered to be of high importance as the infestation can multiply and be transferred to another location quite easily.

If you suspect a bedbug infestation, call Suncoast Pest Solution. We’ll use an effective insecticide to kill the bugs and their remaining eggs. Then, we’ll advise you to wash any infected bedding in hot water to ensure they won’t come back.

Mosquito Invasions

Such a common complaint from clients is Mosquitos! Despite their best efforts, they often tell us they have had no success in eradicating mozzies! Flying blood-suckers who know how to ruin the perfect summer day, mosquitoes carry dangerous diseases.

Mosquitos often can be found underneath leaves of foliage. When we treat mosquitos we treat underneath leaves of foliage. This is paramount to ensure they do not continue to breed in your yard.

Wasp Treatments

These stinging, flying insects reproduce quickly, maturing in 22 days after the female lays an egg. Many people are allergic to their stings, too, making them doubly dangerous. There are three main wasps in South East Queensland:

  • The European wasp
  • The paper wasp
  • The Mud Dauber

Everyone can relate to suffering a wasp bite – they hurt! At Suncoast Pest Solutions, we find and destroy the nests, make sure that any stray wasps will be killed on contact with the chemical when they return. On our regular check-ups, we’ll look for any new nests and eliminate them immediately. Get in contact with us if you have a pesky nest lurking around your home.

Getting Rid Of Mice & Rats

Despite their often cute appearance, these rodents are nothing even close to cute inside your home. Spreading disease wherever they go, they traipse through your pantry and garbage, feeding off whatever they find and tracking their germs throughout your home.

Rodents are Masters of Concealment!
They look for quiet places to nest in such as wall and roof voids, sheds and piles of debris. Rats can squeeze through a gap the thickness of your thumb, mice through a gap the size of your little finger.

We use targeted, locked baits that eliminate the pests, yet pose no threat to your family, guests, or household pets. We inspect roof voids for possible entry points and inspect for rodent droppings – which is a key sign these critters are lurking!

Rodents can also climb drain pipes – it is often a good idea to lay baiting stations near drain pipes.
